Actually, I'm a dual-citizen and I visit there fairly frequently with my father's side of the family, so I don't think it would be a huge issue with their immigration laws, at least not for me (and I have considered giving up my American citizenship entirely), although Carl would be another issue entirely; the Danes are very strange like that: friendly to visitors, but not interested in really letting you in to their culture. The problem would be just that Carl couldn't take al the cold and dark - although maybe in Minnesota he could take a break each winter to visit Florida or some other sunny place! I love those cold, dark winters, but he finds even our short, mild winters too gray and depressing, so I would seriously worry about his mental health if we moved to Europe. I'm sure the French Riviera would be perfect, but I don't think that's even remotely realistic! Honestly, he'll have to find some way to cope with a real winter wherever we eventually move! He and I have just never had to deal with them growing up in New Orleans.

I've been to the Great Lakes area during the spring and there was still snow on the ground in some shady, wooded areas! It is absolutely beautiful. I also really like the Black Hills area, but again, probably too cold and dark for Carl. Where did you live before moving abroad?
