The big, big news, what everyone has been waiting to hear, is that I am now a HOME OWNER! Woohoo!
Yesterday at eight in the Allen* and I met with our lender, a middle-aged, eccentric bleach blond, and our realtor, Liz, who is absolutely fantastic at her job and worked wonders for us. After signing our names on official document after official document for about thirty minutes the keys were handed to us and we were given a folder with all the legal documentation on the house-- at that moment the house became OUR HOUSE (in the middle of our street... I just couldn't help adding that)! Once we left the lender's office we immediately went to Comeaux to buy a refrigerator, which was delivered to the new house this morning. We went with a Frigidaire, which is middle-of-the-road in performance, but it was the nicest, largest 'frige in our price range($400). It's actually kind of intimidating looking in our small, bare kitchen, maybe I should paint a scary face on it to fun up the place... Although I'm pretty sure Allen wouldn't appreciate that.
Bringing the cats to the house proved to be a trying experience: Kira cried from inside the pet carrier the whole way there and Musashi, bless his little heart, although sitting on my lap was so frightened by the car ride that he wet himself and therefore me, as well. Sitting in kitty pee isn't my favorite way to spend an afternoon drive, but I wasn't upset, just embarrassed for my little wussy cat. I'm keeping the two of them secluded in the second bathroom and the laundry room so that they have time to adjust to their new surroundings. I'm happy to report that they aren't acting nearly as traumatized as they were yesterday; when I visited them today they were actually interested in exploring the house a little bit, as long as I was in sight, instead of huddling behind the sink, petrified.
