While I was in drawing class last night I suddenly began to have chills and sweat-- two of the warning signs of very low blood sugar-- and immediately after that I began to feel dizzy and to actually black out. I had to leave class early and have Allen* pick me up, leaving my car at the school over night. The earliest warning sign of a hypoglycemic episode is hunger and tiredness, but the medications I take keep me from having any appetite (no matter how long it's been since my last meal) and I thought I was just tired from being at school all day. It's gotten to the point where I can't tell by how I feel when my blood glucose is too low. This must mean that it's time to follow my doctor's advice and test five times a day, as if I were a diabetic; He insists it's just as important for very insulin-resistant people since our blood sugar can drop so dangerously fast. I never believed him until last night and I also don't like the idea of having to carry around a symbol of illness, like a blood glucose monitor. I'll do it after last night, though... that was by far the worst and scariest incident I've ever had. It makes me worry that my insulin resistance is getting worse, despite the dietary changes I've made.
