Because rose quartz are one of the semi-precious stones said to enhance fertility, I went by The Bead Shop on Magazine Street to buy some stones and beads to make myself some rose quartz jewelry. This afternoon I made myself a pair of fun, funky, sparkly chandelier earrings with faceted rose quartz, tiny round rose quartz beads, and Swarovski crystals in silver and black.

It's difficult to see the facets in the stones because of the picture quality, or to make out the spangly-ness of the silver beads, but they look great in person.

I have a lot of leftover beads, because I bought them by the strand rather than by the bead, so I imagine I will be making some rose quartz gifts for Yule. Unfortunately, not many of my friends are fans of the color pink. I could always make some additional pieces for myself, which I probably will, but giving can be so much fun! Especially hand made gifts.

I'm very interested to try combining beading with knitting, but I'm not really to the point where I could add beads to a very interesting knit pattern. For a beginning project I'm thinking of something like a slinky, black scarf with shiny black and silver beads included sporadically in the knitting; I think it would be very pretty and "witchy."

I've always had a strong interest in herbalism and I've been using it to remedy minor ills since I was in middle school, so it makes sense that I would utilize herbs and essential oils to help balance my out-of-whack hormones now that we are trying to conceive. I knew about the benefits of some of these herbs and oils before I started doing research in to improving fertility naturally, but others I learned of more recently. In any case, I feel like I should share what I have learned; I have gathered this information from various books, conversations with professionals who work with herbs in their day-to-day lives, and from the internet, but I cannot promise that any of it will work and, of course, you should always do your own research to determine the best course of action for yourself.

- Red clover blossoms make a pleasant tea that is said to have fertility enhancing properties and which is supposed to be especially helpful when the reproductive organs have suffered scarring.

For a nice, strong red clover blossom infusion, take about an ounce by weight of the dried blossoms and put them in a quart size canning jar. Fill the jar with boiling water, screw on a tight lid, and let it steep at room temperature overnight; drink up to four cups a day.

the recipe was found here: http://www.susunweed.com/Article_Fertility_Herbs.htm

- Stinging nettle sounds terrible, but it actually has numerous health benefits; I began taking decoctions of the herb to help relieve my arthritis pain (I've had arthritis since childhood), but later discovered that it is supposedly beneficial to women's fertility! Stinging nettle is supposed to help regulate hormones and should be drunk as a tea once a day. I make a tea of red clover blossoms, red raspberry leaf, and a little bitof stinging nettle leaves that I drink several times a day.

- Red raspberry leaf and Vitex are both so commonly accepted as beneficial to female fertility that I will not bother discussing them.

- Clary sage is a golden yellow oil that has clarifying properties and an earthy scent that is very relaxing. Rubbing it in to the skin over the reproductive organs is said to help balance estrogen levels.

- I could not find any quantifiable evidence in regard to the benefits ofPatchouli Oil, but it is an oil with a warm, earthy scent that brings to mind the smell of ferrtile soil and has been associated with fertility for hundreds of years. It has an intense aroma, so I use a tiny bit in a deep conditioning mixture for my hair that I use about once a month and in massage oil.

- Rose is purported to have benefits for fertility, as well, but I have not used rose oil myself. I do, however, add rose hips to my tea from time to time, because they are extremely rich in vitamin C. Supposedly it is beneficial to both men and women to take warm baths in rose oil and at the very least one would emerge smelling lovely.

- Rosemary is a wonderful herb that has always been associated strongly with women and the power of women; my mother and grandmother always told me that if a big, lush bush of rosemary is growing in front of a house a woman is the real head of the household there! Rosemary oil, diluted in gentle carrier oil (I like to use camellia seed oil, but even vegetable oil works fine, too), may be rubbed between the hip bones to help sooth inflammation in reproductive organs, or to help "open blockages" (this seems to me to be a more metaphysical application than a practical one).

- Lavender is another one of my favorite herbs, because I just love its scent and to bake with it! It's great for soaking feet and rubbing on scars, because it has anti-microbial properties and can help dissolve scar tissue. I have not been able to find any information that suggests it will actually benefit fertility, but it is known to be a mild aphrodesiac and a stronger libido is certainly beneficial for fertility! Some people may use lavender oil directly on their skin, but I prefer to dilute it in my bath water or in camellia oil.

I hope some of this information will be helpful (hopefully you haven't heard it all before!).

Now I should probably get to my homework assignment...

Ooh, they look great! I know you'd talked about making the multi-strand earrings, and they look awesome -- I can't wait to see them in person.

Today at work I planned out the leaf necklace... and I can't wait to see what else you come up with for Yule!

The main problem with giving any rose quartz jewelry as gifts is that I don't have many friends who like pink very much. : /

Wow what gorgeous earrings! I think a scarf with those beads would be lovely, but then I love pink and black together anyway, it's one of my favorite combos.

Thanks!

I've been reading up on some cool knitting/beading projects that I'm dying to try... I just want to finish up this loooong Dr. Who scarf first.

Rose quartz is one of the stones listed as an october birthday stone, although this varies widely depending on who you talk to and how much the jeweler thinks you make.

It also occurs to me that if it wasn't for certain preferences in my life, it would worry me vaguely that my birthstone is a symbol for fertility when I'm also a Scorpio.

HAHA world.

Also, I call dibs on future babysitting prospects. My dibs will also cancel out any other claims already in place! :O Every time I read about your continued quests for fertility, I cannot help but be convinced that you'll make the cutest baby in all of existence. IT'S TRUE.

I would trust you more than most of the people I know to babysit! You'll just have to move down here, I guess.
