I've been obsessing about quilting lately, as you probably know, and while I was looking for tips about how to design a quilt myself (I have ideas, but I'm not getting ahead of myself! I am going to follow patterns before I try to dive right in to designing something that will undoubtedly be rather complicated) when I found a website of amazing quilts intended to be wall hangings. I'm sure there are plenty of other quilt designers out there who make quilting a fine art, but so far the quilts at Painted Rock Quilt Designs are the coolest I've come across online. Here is a link to the gallery, I think you should take a few minutes to check it out.

I'm still feeling sad and missing Calvin, but I know I'll feel better eventually: it's just always very difficult for me to lose a pet, especially one I had for so long; Calvin "followed" me and a friend of mine home the summer before I entered seventh grade, when he was just a fat, sort of ugly, roly poly puppy. The older dog we already, Star, had was very mean to him and always let him know who was the alpha dog, although she lightened up the longer he was there, but Calvin was always sweet and lovable when we adopted Cora Bel from the New Orleans SPCA a few years later, well after Star had died. Cora is still with my parents, so I know she'll help my dad as he grieves for Calvin and it's very comforting to have Conrad here with me.

Those quilts are awesome! I think I like Estrella, Color on the Wind, and Hummingbird Migration the best.

Cora is such a sweetie I'm sure she'll be quite comforting to your dad. Speaking of Conrad, how is he? Such a big, silly dog.

Yeah, it's really amazing to me what people can do with just some swatches of fabric and their hands, so I had to share.

Cora actually came by for a visit with my dad. He and my mom think she's a little disturbed after seeing Calvin wrapped in a sheet and buried yesterday. She and Conrad ran around the pool for a little while, which they always seem to enjoy. Conrad is good, although he's getting a little fat again; I think I must be over feeding him.

You know what? I remember looking at a book with some of these quilts at it at Hancock one of the last times we went - it was awhile ago, but these quilts are unmistakable (and awesome!).
