1. get dressed to shoes every morning <- harder than it may seem!
2. write a page every day <- this is a work in progress and I'm doing fairly well with it; next month I should make it specifically "write a journal page, page of fiction, or complete a writing exercise everyday"
3. practice yoga twice weekly <- I want to work up slowly to having a daily practice again, but finding the time and making the space are proving to be the biggest obstacles.
4.begin untangling Delgado financial mess <- this will probably take more than a month to complete, but it's got to be done
5. continue making a place for everything and keeping everything in its place <- extremely important for my sanity, especially if Doug ever makes it down here; I'm making good progress on this, so it's just a matter of gradually improving as I go along
6. finish an incomplete knit project <- I've got a bunch of these lying around that I began when I was pregnant
7. get to bed by eleven-thirty every night <- I often stay up looooong after Miranda and Carl have fallen asleep to "finally get things done," as I'm sure many other mothers do, but it's got to stop.
8. put Miranda down for a nap every day <- I don't believe in letting babies "cry it out," so this one is contingent on her mood
My kitchen counters are once again clear and I'm not sure if I can completely convey the sense of relief this brings me, but I would rather let all our bills go unpaid than look at cluttered, overburdened, spotty counter tops if I had to choose; or not wash my hair any more; or wash my face with Brillo pads. I'm not exaggerating: for my insides to feel in order, my outsides must be in order and the kitchen represents my ability to make decisions, amongst other things. That looks a little crazier than it should, but I don't care.
Today I discovered that glow-in-the-dark yarn exists (non-Ravelers click here)! How did I not know this? I must learn to knit these fingerless gloves now! But first I need to divest myself of or use a bunch of the yarn I've already collected.
I looked in to secret shopping today, but it doesn't look like a worthwhile endeavor for anyone other than the poor college student with a car and plenty of time between classes. Still, I may try going on a few to see for myself; apparently military wives are often frequent secret shoppers.
I'm gradually rebuilding, as well as culling, my collection of books (I call it my library when I'm feeling a bit on the pretentious side) and I've decided I absolutely need to reacquire some of my old favorites (like my favorites by Chitra Bannerjee Divakaruni, The Bride Stripped Bare, and The Joy Luck Club), my feminist novels (Egalia's Daughters, Ladies Coupe are two), as well as buy the Starbridge Chronicles by my new, and possibly most, favorite author, Paul Park; his prose just often seems impossibly good.
I'm extremely pleased that Carlos Mencia was removed from Orpheus. I still hurt when I think about Hurricane Katrina and the lingering effects and I remember watching the episode of his terribad show when it first aired, while I was still without a home and still wondering what had become of my loved ones, so I don't want him participating in one of the greatest cultural experiences New Orleans has to offer, at least not in such a prestigious position.
Miranda napped again yesterday and today, so I have real hope that it will become a regular thing for her, which will make Goal Number Eight a lot easier. She's also been going to sleep earlier, which has given me and Carl some nice, quiet alone time.
My mom generously bought a jumper chair for Miranda, which we need to put together tonight. I'm looking forward to seeing her in it and I really hope she likes it as much as the baby on the box seems to like it! If she does it should provide plenty of adorable photo ops!
