For us money is almost always tight, although we live comfortably, but things have been even trickier since Hurricane Katrina flooded our house. Since money's been so tight I was looking forward to taking Conrad to the vet, but it had to be done so he could get new prescriptions of Heartgard and Frontline. Now I'm just incredibly pleased that we took him to a local veterinarian because he was kind enough to do all the blood work and give us the medications for free; Not only did this save us money we really couldn't spare, but it was incredibly touching and uplifting.

I took my hedgehogs to a vet here in Arizona, where hedgehogs are actually illegal. He both agreed to see them that day and also any other time they were in need of a vet, and he didn't charge me.
It was wonderful.

I just love hedgehogs and have often considered getting one myself, but I had no idea they were illegal anywhere in the U.S. I know ferrets are illegal for some absurd reason in New York city, but I never plan to move there.

I'm glad you got your critters taken care of, too. It's really nice to learn how many veterinarians are really decent people.
