From the beginning I was pretty certain that our house would end up under water, totally flooded, and now there's no uncertainty left at all: I've seen the satellite images and our neighborhood is under water nearly to the rooftops.

Still, some uncertainty remains: we don't know when we're going home, or even if we are. If we do go home we aren't sure where we'll live, we're not sure if FEMA will give us the money to pay off our mortgage or not. We don't know where we'll work or how we'll get by, but I am certain that we'll manage somehow and that we'll have the full support of both our families and all our friends; For those things and so much more we are truly blessed.

Oh, wow. I knew that the Tad Gormley stadium was flooded, but the last image I saw of it was in Jackson and it didn't look that deep. I'm sorry about your house, I really am .. I do have good memories from within its walls and I hope that you can Allen* can get back to it. At least you, he, and all of the animals are safe.

If you need anything from me, don't hesitate to ask. I'm keeping you in my thoughts and I can't wait until I can see you again; hopefully it'll be sooner than later.

As I said to someone else earlier: no matter where we end up, we just all need to keep in touch and stay together as much as possible. Ours is such a unique group of friends, it's rare that so many genuine people find eachother and I'd hate to let go of that. All I want is for our group of friends to stay in touch.

Me, too. I just bought some Junko Mizuno stationary today in Ann Arbor with a few bucks I had, with the intent to write to you on it -- I knew you'd like it. I really miss you and everyone else; I was elated to hear from Kevin on his livejournal, since nobody had heard from him. All of you guys [in my head I refer to us as the 'Circle', since we all RP together (and other things)] mean so much to me; we definately need to stay together.

I can't believe that we've been scattered like we have, but I'm just glad all of us are alright and we all have computer access or at least some way of communication. It was hard for me to digest that I can't see you or any of my friends for the forseeable future, but hopefully we can keep in touch however we can.

That being said, I'm going to start your letter ASAP. <3

Dave and Carl should be here with me at Aunt Joye's pretty soon, although Carl will only be able to stay for a couple of days. It'll be nice to have the company of one of my friends!

Greetings,

You don’t know me, but I got your name from an LJ user named Chickbrarian who is on my friends list. I do not have much to offer; I was a nurse before I was permanently disabled in a hit and run accident a few years ago, and in February of this year my Craftmatic adjustable hospital bed set fire to my home and I lost everything I owned except the clothes on my back, including 2 dear animals, in a matter of minutes. We are currently renting a home in another town that has a separate mother in law unit (described below) which we are offering to survivors of Katrina who could use it. California is far away from where you are, but if you are currently homeless and have any desire to relocate we will do our best to help you get here and give you a safe space to begin to heal from this hideous ordeal for at least a month or so.

Below is the offer I posted at Hurricane Housing detailing what we have and who we are. If this would be of help to you, please email me at Baraka Rn at hotmaildot com, please forward it on if you know someone who has lost their home and could utilize temporary housing in California. Being disabled and on a fixed income, I have very little money that I can spare for the relief effort. However, if you have direct need to purchase basic necessities, or you know someone who is in dire straights, please contact me and I will wire it to you ASAP. If not, then the money I can allocate to disaster relief will be funneled through other agencies. The last thing I want to say is this: I thought I would never survive the loss of my home and my babies, it was devastating beyond compare. But I can say, with a lot of tears, anger, and therapy behind me, that it IS possible to survive something of this magnitude. It is even possible to build something new that will give your life meaning and joy again, I swear it.

I'm fortunate enough to have plenty of help from my immediate and extended families and once people are allowed back into the New Orleans area my boyfriend and I will have a place to live, as my parents own a house next to theirs that they were renovating to use as a rental property.

Your offer is truly touching and I'm grateful for all the generous people like you. I do have a few friends who still don't know what they're going to do, so I'll pass along your info. to those friends who I know would never take advantage of another person's hospitality.

I'm currently disabled and living with a number of health problems, so would you mind if I added you to my Friends list?

Oh please do! Yes, it is a whole new level of hell living with chronic health problems on top of everything else. I am thankful that you are so well taken care of. Glad to meet you!

One of the good things I'm getting out of this horrible event is some good, new friends. Thanks for everything.
